Fishing and Gigging Reports

3-6-10
Launched at 6:45 with my dad trying to find some new fish. Tide was low at the start with good tide coming in little after noon. First stop did a wade over sand mud mix with scatted shell. With water still low we fished waist deep casting into 4-6 ft. Bite was soft. Ended up catching 3 reds and 1 Trout at first stop. After about an hour we went scouting. My now the wind was East at 15-20 which made the water dirty quick. Made a 15 mile run to the back of the bay to find dirty water and no bait. Turned around and headed back stopping at a couple places only to pick up a fish here and there. Finally made a wade about 1/2 mile from first stop and found lots of bait and a few more fish.

Last wade we were able to get on a few more reds and lost a couple trout. Got back to the ramp around noon just in time for the tide to start moving go figure. Fish are defiantly on the shore line just need a good tide to get them to bite well. Dad keep two of the reds for dinner all other were released.

With calm wind mid week things are looking up

Wadeing and Gigging
Had the afternoon to try for a big girl and wanted to try a couple new spots. Decided with Se wind I try a few open water spots. First stop got two bites on a corky just no hook ups. Second spot some got bite just would not stick. Switch to a Big Nasty and that is what they wanted. The fish were not big just 16-18'' but still fun. As it got dark the bite got better. Stop fishing around 6:30 and started to gig. Gigged a total of 4 spots one of each Flats, Channel, bayou, and flats again. Saw a total of 3 glass minnows and no flounder. Water was clear enough to see 20 ft in front of the boat.

Water was 47 degree so was a little cold. Should be good first warm up we get.

Over all fishing was good fishing in 2-4' of water on mud shell mix. Bait of choice was 1/8 oz with a Big Nasty in Morning Glory w/ a Chartuese Tail.

2-13-10
Fished Saturday with a buddy try to get a big girls to bite. Launched 30 min before day light to see thousands of these worms swimming in the water. The picture I took makes them look like little shrimp but they were tan and about 1/4 inch long.
The wind was N at about 2 mph and cold water temp of 42. Started on a mud flat and waded towards a deep channel. Third cast from the boat a nice 21'' red. Finished the wade with only 3 other bites just did not really want it. With no wind and tide going out fast we ran and looked at 3 other spots for a mid week wade.
Talked to 3 guys at the ramp that called it a day early also and they had 1 red and no other bites.

2-2-10
Did a wade/drifting trip with a buddy for his 40th birthday. We could not get out till 10:30 so we fished the outgoing tide. Was able to find two guts with nice mud and some bait just tide was going out of them way to fast. I sure when you catch it just before the tide starts ripping it will be on fire. Once the tide started to get low we jumped in the boat and drifted the rest of the day. Was able to catch a couple nice trout up to 22’’ mostly 16''-18''. The birthday boy did catch two nice Flounder 19'' and 20''. Both will be stuffed he said. Only one red today but made for a good day.
Capt. Robert Liebert

2-1-10
Did a mid day fishing trip today only having a few hours. Fished from 11- 2:30 over mud and shell. Was able to catch the last 30-45 min of the low tide and then had to fish a slack tide with very little wind. Throw Corky’s and tails and both did the job. Best fish came on a corky and was 3 pounds. Total count was 12 Trout 3 Reds and 1 Flounder. My buddy keep a few trout for his dinner the rest were released.
Capt. Robert Liebert

1-26-10
Was a slow day wading Galveston bay. With the East wind blowing 13 when we launch and 15-20 by the time we can in it forced us to hug the shore line. Did a total of 3 wades and caught all our fish on a sand mud mix with scatter shell. Ended the day with a limit of Reds and one trout. All fish were caught on Corky and all were released to fight another day. Reds were 22''-31'' and big fish was 11 pounds.

Once the wind lay I think the wading should pick up. All the bait was held up in the dirty water with the reds mixed in.

Anouther good day today had 3 people on the boat.  Drifted 4-6 ft of water over mud and shell ened up with 22 trout 2 Reds and 1 Flounde.  Over all a great day.  The big fish bite shoule be just around the cornor.
Capt. Robert Liebert

1-3-10
Today fished with two great fishermen that wanted some fish for the freezer. After telling them about yesterday on the phone I knew I had my work cut out for me. Started the day in 4-6 ft of water over a mud shell mix. On the third cast and bang a nice 18'' trout continued that drift and had 5 in the box in the first 30 min. Started our drift out farther the next time and was able to do about the same. Over all drifted 4 different areas and picked up fish in all but one. The bite was very soft like yesterday, but still was able to get their 20 trout and 1 red to boot. Color of choice was Red Shad and Tx Roach. Total count was 20-30 keeper Trout Lots of dinks and 1 Red. Trout were 17''-22'' and Red was 23''

Weather was ENE around 14-18 all day. With the over cast sky would have made a perfect day for an all day Trophy Trout wade.
Capt. Robert Liebert

1-2-10
Fished Galveston bay with three buddies today. My Dad, Capt. Mullet, and buddy Mark. Today started off slow until we got in the boat and started drifting. Fish were all in 3-5 ft of water over shell mud mix. Seems that the fish wanted the bait slow and really had to pay attention to the soft bite. Over all we ended up keeping 20 small Trout for a fish Fry Sunday and releasing 8 or 10 more. Over all I say we caught and released 25-30 keepers and 10-20 just under size fish.

Was a great day to be out on the water. Bite should be good for the next week or so if anyone want to head out let me know.

12-22-09
Did another short trip today with the old man in Galveston bay. We fished a total of 3 spots and caught fish at each. Fished were held up in 8-11 ft of water. With the cold front coming in fish were feeding pretty aggressive for the winter time. Color of choice was Dark with Black magic being the star of the day. Big fish boated was 5 pounds and lost one we estimated around 7. She broke the line after a 2 minute fight. She was a PIG!

All fish were released.

Launched around 7 and best bite was between 8-9 a.m. With the front coming in tomorrow probably will not be able to fish till after the holidays. Once this next front goes through wading should pick up.
Things are getting right for the big girls and the fish are starting to get fat.
Capt. Robert Liebert

12-21-09
Fished today with my dad, on a mainly a scouting mission. Started out around 7 fishing deep shell in 8-12 ft of water only able to manage a couple trout to 3 pounds. After we determined that the bite was not going to be on with the low tide and only getting lower we did a giant run around the entire bay. Was able to locate some bait on a couple shorelines for future days of wading. Also check out a few spot that produce some pigs in January and February and that are starting to look right. Water temp was 48 degree to start off and was 54 when we got off the water.

I would recommend doing a afternoon trip to any one that is getting out the next few days.
Capt. Robert Liebert

12-6-09
Today was a cold misty day.  Fished with a buddy of mine that wanted to catch a few fish.  Started the day very slow with only a couple fish in each spot.  Around 1 p.m. found some fish concentracted on a muddy bottom in 8 ft of water.  Was able to catch some nice fish between 18''-23''  Over all was a good day of fishing just not the best weather.
Capt. Robert Liebert

12-1-09
Started the day drifting in 6-8 ft of water trowing plastics with 1/4 oz lead head.  Fished wanted it worked low on the bottom.  Color of choice was anything dark.  Ened the day with 12 trout and 3 flounder.
Capt. Roebert Liebert

11-10-09
Launched today early and did a wade in Galveston bay over shell and mud.  Did not have a party, but was able to get some great scouting in.  Found a nice group of fish at the mouth on a bayou.  Ened up keeping 10 trout and 2 reds.  Released 20-25 other trout.  Biggest trout was 24''.
Capt. Robert Liebert

11-4-09
Launched today around 1 p.m. and did the afternoon with a buddy that just bought a new boat. He wanted to learn the bay and do some wading. First hour or so we just drove around on a quick crash course of Galveston bay. By about 2:30 we did our first and only wade and were able to pick up a 4 pounder and a nice fish just over 5. Since the fish did not seem to be on the shore line we proceeded to drift the rest of the afternoon. At around 4p.m. we found a school of fish the size of a football field. From 4 till dark we caught fish every cast on Top Waters. Most fish were small, but had a lot of fish that were in the 15''-16'' range that we could have keep. Ended up boxing 9 fish that were hooked deep or bleeding.

Was a Great day and can't wait to get back out.
Capt. Robert Liebert

10-31-09
Fished Galveston bay Saturday with clients and had a great time. Focused mainly in 6-8 ft of water over mud and shell. Told my guys that we could fish some birds, but there was 3-5 boat on every group and no one was catching anything over 15''. Ended up keeping away from the crowds and grinding out a total of 6 keeper trout 17''-21'' and one 5 1/2 pound flounder. Also had 15-20 dinks and lots of fish pull off half way to the boat. All fish were caught on lures ¼ oz with anything glow. It was my guys first time with lures and I believe they did great.
Capt. Robert Liebert

10-18-09
Fished all over Trinity today with two buddys just trying to scout around and find a good pattern for future clients. Started off doing a wade over scatted shell and mud in 2'-3' of water and only produced 1 4 pound trout and 1 red about 22''. Next wade same results couple trout for a long wade. By then it was about 10 so we decided to just drifted the rest of the day. Ened up doing ok drifting in 7'-9' of water over scattered shell and mud. Found a small group of fish hold tight to the bottom that were very hungry. Figured we ened the day with 8-10 keeper trout and 2 Reds. All fish were released. Wind was ENe 10-15. With the high pressure made for a tough bite. I feel this week will be a great week to get out and catch a lot of fish. Did check out a few of my big trout spots and looks like the hurricane did not mess them up. Should hold some real nice fish once it gets cold.
Capt. Robert Liebert

10-12-09
Today started slow with lots of rain that kept us near the ramp till about 7:40. By 8 ish the weather lifted and we were good to go. Made our way out to Trinity and started to drift shell in 4-6 ft of water and were able to pick up a quick dozen keepers, 1 red, and 20-30 dinks. Moved around and found another good group of trout in 6-8 ft of water and was able to catch the rest of our fish. Bait of the day was 1/4 oz lead head with anything dark. Ended up boxing 20 Trout and one Red as one guy said he did not want any fish. Trout were all 16''-20'' and red was 23''.

We should have been wading as it was nice and calm.
Capt. Robert Liebert

9-27-09
Have not been able to get out the last couple weeks so told my guys we would find our fish or trip was on me. Started the day shallow hoping to find a few fish to eat some topwaters, but the shoreline just did not have a lot of bait or any sign so head to 6-8ft of water. Moved around and was able to find big group of fish about 8:30. Stayed with the school for about an hour only able to pick 2 keeper out of 30 dinks. Was able to find 4 other school just most of the fish were 13-15 inches. Long story short was able to finish the day with 10 keeper Trout. All fish were 16''+ biggest was around 17'' Lost about 8 keepers at the boat due to flipping them in.
Great day to be on the water and heat was not bad.
It’s the start of fall and it looking good.
Capt. Robert Liebert

9-20-09
Did a little scouting today to see if the fall patern had started.  Turns out most of the fish are still holding deep in 8-10 ft of water did find a few reds and flounder on the shore line.  Over all we had 18 trout 3 flounder and 2 reds.

9-15-09
Big Score on Windy Night

Had a gigging trip planned for last Friday that we postponed to last night due to all the rain.  However last night it was so windy I really wanted to push it back to Wednesday, due to a stiff 20 mph wind.  To make a long story short they talked me into going and it proved to be a tough night with the extreme high tide and WSW wind at 15-20 the entire night.  We were able to gig a total of 8 Flounder including an impressive 25’’, 7 pounder and also caught 2 trout on the way in, biggest was 18’’.  Over all we turned a tough night in to a great night with the one saddle blanket flounder.

The flip flop in the picture measure 12.5’’

Fished on Saturday for just a few hours. Focused on Reds for 2 hour, only to find 10-12 rat reds. Decided we go hit was trout for about an hour in about 8 ft of water over shell and mud and was able to pick up about 15 trout.

Tarpon
Fished Sunday with a couple buddies of mine that wanted to chases the Poons. Launched about 6:30 and saw our first Tarpon at 10 a.m. At first they did wanted to eat after throwing and throwing. At about 12 all the Tarpon went down and was like someone turn off the switch. One hour later they came back up and were able to jump on, which came off on the first jump. Two min later I hooked up and she did one jump and many rolls across the surface. At 45 min into the fight had her almost boat side and she made one last run and broke the line. That was a killer. Did not get any good picture of her, did have a couple short video of her rolling on top. I try and figure how to post a video if I can.
Also saw a few spinner sharks and lots of Spanish mackerel.

8-28-09
Had two guys with me today fishing upper Galveston bay and lower Trinity bay. Had to really work for our fish today just was not a good bite with the poor tides we had. Was able to catch lots of small spec and a few nice keepers. Over all we ended up keeping on 5 Trout since they did not want many. All keeper trout today were between 21'' and 26''. That’s right a 26'' pig that went just under 6 pounds on the boga. Over all a tough day, but made the day with catching all quality fish. Heading to the big bay tomorrow AKA The Gulf. Told a buddy about some fish we found at the ended of the day so I hope he starts their. If so we should see a pretty good report from him.
O also put a pic of the big ugly we fought for 25 min on a trout rod. Drum though he was a red made 4 long runs before we saw him so I figured it was a Red. Big Trout pic did not come out to well sorry guys.

Had some great guys out last night on a giging trip with me. With the strong high tide I just know that it would be a great night. Well started out slow and I mean real slow until about 9 ish and that when the tide finally slacked up a little. Once tide lay we finally got on a few flounder and stayed on them for about hour and half. Ended up gigging until about midnight and was able to gig 15 flounder to about 3 ½ pounds. Wind was Se at 10 when we launch and Se 15 by the time we go back. Saw lots of Beds just no one home. Not sure why the flounder were not pulled up tight to the shore line, but was able to get a nice mess of them any ways. Even with the limit going to 5 a person in a few day I believe that will just give us more time to focus on big flounder rather than key on more. I know I have a couple trips in September and I already told them that we are going to key on flounder over 4 pounds.
Capt. Robert Liebert

8-22-09
Talked to my dad last night and he said that he wanted to run his boat and asked if I wanted to jump on. Told him if we could check out a few spots I was game. So we launch from sylvan at noon yes middle of the day. Fished 8-11 ft of water on a drop off and was able to find a few good fish. Left those fish and ran future south to a hump that was in about 8 ft of water and dropped to about 10 ft and it was on. Caught 10-15 more trout with biggest being 4 pounds on the boga. Over all we figured we caught around 20 trout to 4 pounds. Only keep 5 small fish for my dad and mom dinner rests were released to fight another day. We guess we would have had about 14 keepers in the 3 hours of fishing.
Was nice to get out with the dad. If winds stay light this week should be great.

Capt. Robert Liebert

8-21-09
Fished today with some great guys and gals. Hit deep structure and shell pads for first hour or two and only produced a couple small trout. Ended up finding a bunch of fish and I mean all kinds of fish out deep. My clients wanted to hang out and catch whatever. So we ended up stays around and drifting different groups of birds, just most of the fish were not keeper trout. Have a couple gigging trips this week so I am sure those will be pretty good.
Capt. Robert Liebert

8-15-09
Last night was just like the last few nights have been flounder all over. Another text book gigging trip started just after dark and had 21 Flounder by 11:30. Had a nice SE wind of about 12 when we started and switch to a ESE at about 10 by the time we got off the water. All flounder were over 16’’ except one that was 15’’. The big girl of the night was a nice 22’’ 5 pounder. Overall average flounder was about 18’’ and in the 2-4 pound range. O we also saw 15-20 other flounder in the 8’’-14 ½’’ range. Lot of Flounder that look close just told my guys we focus on the big ones and let the small ones grow up.
Capt. Robert Liebert

8-13-09
Well wanted to do a nice full trip, but with all the storms we had yesterday I told my dad it would be real muddy with run off. Well at 8:30 he called me and said it still wanted to go so I said that find we will try it. Had to key on small areas that had clean water. Did not get in the water till almost 9:30 so had a real late start. Started off with a Se wind of about 13 and switch to Nw at about 15 my 11:00. Just was able to gig until the wind switched and got 10 flounder. Over all not bad for a late start and only being able to gig for about 2 hrs in dirty water.
Capt. Robert Liebert

8-10-09
Wind, Wind, and more Wind. Had 3 clients last night that wanted to gig and catch a trout or two. Told them that we would have to run a ways to find some clean water to gig. After a long run we made it to the first spot only to find it real muddy. So we headed off again to plan B. Got to plan B and it was decent at best. Told them we would stay here and chunk top water till it got dark. Only was able to get a few blow ups, they just were slapping at it, but was my guys first time to see a fish go after a top water. Got dark about 8:30 and we got started. Make a long story short gigged until 12 p.m. and was able to pick up 20 flounder. All but 2 were over 16’’ with biggest being 21’’. After that they said that they had never caught a trout before so we did some drifts to try and pick up a few trout, under the mostly full moon. Was only was able to find one keeper trout and a bunch of throw backs. The one trout was 22’’ and a fatty. Over all we estimated we saw about 35 flounder with about 7 of them being 12’’-14’’ and a few that were too fast to get a gig in them.
Can’t wait till the wind calms down because it should be on fire. O also I believe that our fall run will be one of the best to date. I personally believe that our Flounder population is up, but that why I not a biologist.

Capt. Robert Liebert

Fished Galveston bay today with 3 great guys. First 45 min was slow, but soon picked up. Had first trout in the boat at about 7 and then it about 7:30 the reds moved in and it was on fire. Most of the reds were over size being from 29 inched up 38 inches. Had 3 red eaten completely my sharks on the way to the boat and another one was bit in half. “SEE PICTURE”. Was able to boat 14 bull reds and two slot reds. My guys said they had enough of the reds so we moved to find a few trout. Never really did get a good trout bite going, but was able to pick one here and there. Over all was a Great day to be on the water.

Took three Texas Lady Anglers gigging last night.  Said that they wanted to aim for their limit of 30 Flounder.  The night started slow and stayed slow all night.  Most areas that I like to gig were to dirty to see so we had to gig small areas of clear water that I located before dark.  Wind started off blowing Sw at about 14 and ended up about W Sw at about 16. Not the best conditions for gigging.  We hung in and worked hard and were able to get 20 Flounder.  They missed 5 or 6, but that part of it.  With August almost here we should have more calm nights that will be more successful.  Was a fun night and a pleasure taking these lady’s out.

Fished today with two future Texas A&M students. They said that they wanted to catch some fish and learn as much as they could in one day. We started off wading over scatted shell in waist deep water and proved to have a nice top water bite for about an hour. Moved down the shoreline a mile to some more shell and was able to pick up 4 more fish all on plastics. By then it was getting hot so we head across the bay and drifted in about 6-7 ft of water over scatted shell and was able to pick up two more nice fish, one 4 pounder and big fish of the day just under 5. Lost 1 other that look to be a about 4 pounds. Head out deep the rest of the day and was able to pick up a few more mostly small fish but did find one that was 21. Was hard to drift deep water today due to strong wind, let hope they lay soon. Ended up keeping 11 Trout for their dinner and release 10 others that were either dinks or only 15-16 inches. Over all nice day and was nice to be able to pass some knowledge along to the next generation.

Fished today is uppper galveston again and had simalar results as yesterday.  Was not able to find any reds, but did catch some nice trout.  Ened up with 14 trout to 4 pounds and must have lost 15-20 more due to fish pulling off.  O well that why it is called fishing.
Capt. Robert Liebert

7-17-09
Fished today with three great guys in upper galveston bay.  Stayed in bout 9 foot of water most of the day.  Was able to find some nice trout and reds on a hump in about 7 feet of water.  Ened up with 14 trout and 3 reds.  Bite was hard to make them stick.

7-16-09
Fished Galveston bay today with three great guys. Started out over shell in 5 foot of water try to catch a big one only was able to get 5 trout up to 3 pounds up shallow. Head out deep and ended up on some humps in about 10 ft of water deep water I found them in all summer. Stayed with the school for few hours was able to get some nice fish in the boat. After that it was getting hot so we made one stop on the way in to try to catch a Redfish for one of my guys from New York. Was not able to find him a red, but did catch him his first Texas Flounder. Total for the day was 20 Trout to 5 1/2 pounds and 1 Flounder. Should have had a limit by 10 a.m. just had a lot of fish pull off and lots of missed fish. O well that why it is called fishing.
Weather was W sw @ 10 with lots of thunder heads that chased us around most of the day. Calling for rain all weekend so if you head out this weekend watch the weather.
Capt. Robert Liebert

7-15-09
Fished to today with 3 friends that just wanted to get out and fish and help me find a few groups of fish for the weekend. Headed out with a still Sw wind around 14 and fished a deep hump in 9 ft of water with only 3 trout to show. Left their and hit a few other humps until we found a school of reds. Stayed on the reds for long enough to determine that they were mostly bulls. Caught 4 Reds up to 15 pounds. Left the reds for my clients on Thursday and wanted to get on a trout bite. By then it was about 9 and the wind had picked up to about 15 Wsw. Was able to find a hump hold a few trout in about 7 ft of water caught a couple and left them for tomorrow. All in all we should have had about 15 trout and 4 Reds. Biggest trout was 4 1/2. Tough bite in this Sw wind, hopefully it will lay for a little in the morning. I guess it was 20 mph by the time we got off the water.
Capt. Robert Liebert

7-13-09
When gigging this evening with a couple great guys.  Stayed near deep drop offs and channels.  Started at dark and had their 20 flounder at 11 p.m.  Was a fun night and got a bunch of flatties.
Capt. Robert Liebert

7-12-09
Fished today just for fun with two of my buddies. Stared out throwing plastics on shell drop off near the channel with only 5 or 6 trout to show at around 7 a.m. Drifted around trying to get on a good bite just could not seem to get on them very good. About 9 we moved across the channel and found a nice group on trout busting bait on the surface. We proceeded to catch trout on Top waters for about 2 1/2 hrs until the tide stop moving and the bite died. We estimated we caught 20-30 keepers and about 10 dinks. After the bite stopped I wanted to get on some bigger fish since most of the top water fish were 17-20 inches. Move and hit deep shell in 9-10 ft of water and was able to pick up 7 more trout. The 7 were all between 3- 5/2 pounds.
Over all a great day on the water. All fish were released to fight another day.
Capt. Robert Liebert

7-10-09
Fished upper Trinity today with a guy I met last duck season. He told me that he would like to focus on Redfish and Trout was a far second. We fished 8-10 of water over mud and shell. Best bite was a paddle tails and sand ells jr's. We caught between 40-50 Reds. Only problem was most were 14-19 inches. Still was fun to catch them. Also was able to find a few nice trout mixed in with the reds. All fish released. If figured we would have had 5 keeper reds up to about 24 inches and 4 trout up to about 23 inches.

Over all we found 2 schools of reds just could not get on a bunch of big reds. Would have been a great day to have a kid on board.

Took a long time friend out today to scout around and locate new areas that were holding fish. Started out at 5:45 throwing tops in 4 ft water over shell and sand with not a sniff. With all the bait in the area, we switched to tails and were able to catch a quick 5 trout to 3 pounds. We left those fish and moved to 6-7 ft of water and caught 5 more trout and 3 reds. Bite was over by 9 am. Figured since we were close to the surf, we ran out the jetties and found a pod of mullet and proceeded to catch shark after shark on Sand ells. Biggest was 4 ft. We had many others that broke off due to only having the trout rods on the boat. Hard to get a big shark with 20 pound liter. Played with the sharks for about 30-40 min then headed in. All in all we had 10 trout to 4 pounds and 3 reds to 6 pounds. Buddy kept 2 trout and red for supper all other fish were released. Sorry no pictures.

Had three guys today with me fishing Galveston Bay. When they got on the boat they told me that it was David’s birthday and I needed to make sure I put him on a big fish. Well, with it being the day before July 4th I decided to fish humps and unmarked drop offs to keep away from the crowds. Fished mainly 5-7 ft of water near drop offs. Keyed on slicks and active bait. The Birthday boy ended up catching the biggest fish of the day. The big fish was a 29’’ red that went 9 pounds on the boga.

Over all we ended up with 23 trout to 5 pounds and 3 Reds to 9 pounds. Should have had their three person limit of trout just was a tough bite to feel. Also had 3 big fish pull off mid way through the fight. I am sure that they were big reds.

Did another wade trip today after having so much sucess the day before.  Well, day started with only having 3 trout and a redfish at 9 a.m. We moved around and ended up getting on a huge school of Redfish in knee deep water and caught them almost every cast for about 2 hrs. It was estimated  that we caught 30-50 Redfish with some as big as 8 pounds.

Today I had two guys that wanted to wade all day.  With it getting hot, I told them that we would do best drifting, but they wanted to wade.  We spent the entire day wading focusing mainly on Redfish.  My waders proved to be a good choice when we ended up with limits of Redfish and 7 Trout.

Had a big group today of 3 couples.  They all wanted to stay in one boat.  We fished protected shoreline all day due to a SE wind of around 20 mph most of the day.  Ended up with only a dozen trout and a bunch of trash fish.  Told them we would plan a make up trip.

Well, today was the first trip in the new Haynie.  Since I needed to break the motor in I just took my girlfriend and her friends out.  They said that they wanted some sun.  Well, you all know I had to bring a rod or two.  After we put about 5 hrs of run time on the boat we hit a couple spots in lower Galveston and ended up Catching 12 Red Fish 3 Flounder and about a dozen trout.  All fish released.

With yesterday being so good, I told my guys it would not be hard to get our limit.  Ran to the same spot as yesterday and after 30 min. of no fish we had to go to plan B.  Plan B was a 20 min run across the bay to a deep hump and it proved to be a good plan.  As soon as we got their it was on fire.  Boxed our 30 trout in about 45 min and then caught and released for about an hour.  My guys said they were tired of catching trout so we moved to target Redfish.  No Redfish, but we did find a hole full of flounder.  We must have caught 10-15 flounder in the one spot.  Only 7 keepers.  Ended the day with 30 Trout and 7 Flounder.  All fish were caught on croaker and soft plastics.

Today was my first croaker trip of the year and all I can say is WOW.  We started the day around 6 a.m. and had a limit of trout my 10 a.m.  We must have had between 50-60 Trout today and even had 2 keeper Flounder.  Had three guys, so we kept our 30 Trout and 2 Flounder. One guy was from Minnesota and he told me that our trout beat his small mouth bass any day.  Stayed in Galveston bay all day.

Fished today with just a friend of mine catching Redfish in West Bay marsh.  Started off on north shore line which only provided 5 reds, all on top waters.  Moved around and ended up finding a nice group near some rip rap and caught 5-8 more, and even found a nice flounder and 4 or 6 trout.

Waded East bay today on the South shoreline.  Used top waters all day and caught fish on them.  Best bite was on skitter walks worked fast.  Ended the day with their 20 trout.  Today was the first either guy had ever caught a trout on top waters.  If you have never done this, it is something you have to see.
